WorldGuessr asks you to identify a real place after you have been placed somewhere in the world, with the only advantage being what the landscape is willing to reveal. First, you observe your starting point to assess whether the area offers immediate information or whether it plunges you into uncertainty. Then you explore the surroundings to spot exploitable elements, such as signs, facades, the layout of roads, vegetation or the coastline. The heart of the gameplay relies on this methodical reading of clues, because you must transform scattered details into a credible hypothesis. If you conclude too quickly, you risk a gross error. Otherwise, you can continue your research in order to distinguish the continent, then the country, and possibly the city or small municipality where you are located.
The player's choices strongly change the way to approach each session. You can select among many playgrounds designed by the community, by a specific territory or a particular theme, which changes the difficulty and the type of clues encountered. If despite everything you cannot move forward, the help system indicates only a general area of the globe, which avoids a dead end without removing the thinking. The game also offers ranked duels, where your performances serve to place you on a global leaderboard bringing together more than one million players. This competitive dimension pushes you to better compare, eliminate and decide, because failure often comes from a misinterpreted detail or excessive confidence.
